Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
Twins infielder Nick Punto will undergo right wrist surgery today in Phoenix, but is expected to return for the start of spring training, General Manager Bill Smith said today.
Punto had the wrist checked this week in the Twin Cities, and the surgery will be a "clean up," Smith said.
"He is expected to be ready when position players report [to spring training Feb. 26]," Smith said. "Because it’s not a serious issue, we felt it was better to get it taken care of."
