He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

TFD: The story of Pete Carroll, new Seahawks coach

Posted by: Michael Rand under College football Updated: January 11, 2010 - 5:07 PM

From ESPN.com:

The Seattle Seahawks confirmed Monday they have agreed to terms on a contract with Pete Carroll to become their next head coach. "We are excited to add Pete as our coach," said CEO Tod Leiweke in a statement. "He brings a great passion for winning and a positive attitude that is contagious. We now turn our full attention to the hiring process for a general manager. "Our intended structure is for Pete and the new GM to work in a collaborative capacity on football matters."

Carroll was set to address the media Monday at a news conference on the USC campus at 6 p.m. ET. The Seahawks were to formally introduce Carroll at their headquarters in Renton, Wash., on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET. Carroll spoke earlier Monday of his resignation from USC. Talking with the Los Angeles Times, Carroll said his pending move wasn't in reaction to possible sanctions the Trojans' program faces as a result of an ongoing investigation over whether players may have received improper benefits. "Not in any way," Carroll told the newspaper. "Because I know where we stand. It's just a process we have to go through. We know we've fought hard to do right."

Carroll, a longtime coach and coordinator in the NFL before joining USC in 2000, said he had for a while "given up" on a return to the pro ranks. "But it came out of nowhere," he told the Times.

And when an opportunity comes along to coach a team that went 9-23 over the past two years, has an aging QB and no prospects at that position, how do you pass that up? Especially when you are leaving a gorgeous climate, a great job and a 97-19 record for almost certain failure that will likely parallel two other miserable NFL head coaching ventures?

Seriously. Anyone else not buying the "Not in any way" stuff in regards to the USC investigation?
