See my Pazz & Jop ballot

Posted by: Chris Riemenschneider under Music Updated: December 24, 2009 - 11:29 PM

The deadline for the Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop Poll -- a roundup of music critics' year-end ballots around the country -- was 11 p.m. tonight/midnight New York time. I got it in with about three minutes to spare. One of the reasons I was so late was because I've spent the past week compiling and then writing about our all-local version of Pazz & Jop. the Twin Cities Critics Tally, which will run Jan. 1. I can't wait for you guys to see the results.

In the meantime, here's how I voted in P&J, which will be published in a few weeks. I was rushed, but I think these are pretty close to my favorites. I didn't rank my choices, so each of my votes gets 10 points in the poll (every critic's ballot adds up to 100).

Heartless Bastards, "The Mountain"

Mastodon, "Crack the Skye"

Mos Def, "The Ecstatic"

P.O.S., "Never Better"

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, "Pains of Being Pure at Heart"

Phoenix, "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart"

St. Vincent, "Actor"

U2, "No Line on the Horizon"

Wilco, "Wilco (the Album)"

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "It's Blitz"

Some of the songs I voted for: "Zero," the Yeah Yeah Yeahs; "Sugarfoot," Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears; "1901," Phoenix; "Keep It Goin' Louder," Major Lazer; "One Wing," Wilco; "Actor Out of Work," St. Vincent; "Crystalised," the XX; "Moment of Surrender," U2; "Losin' Yo Head," Monsters of Folk; "Scumbag Blues," Them Crooked Vultures.
