Joe Christensen covered Major League Baseball for 15 years, including three seasons at the Baltimore Sun and eight at the Star Tribune, before switching to the college football beat. He’s a Faribault, Minn., native who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1996. He covered Jim Wacker’s Gophers for the Minnesota Daily and also wrote about USC, UCLA and the Rose Bowl for the Riverside Press-Enterprise before getting this chance to cover football again.

The Gophers got two more members of their most current recruiting class, both are from Lackawanna C.C. in Scranton, Pa., according to GopherIllustrated.com They are:
--Safety Herschel Thornton, a 6-2, 205-pound, hard-hitter. He had offers from Pittsburgh, Rutgers and South Florida. He's 22 years old; he worked for two years after graduating high school in 2006 before finally going to school;
--Tight end Tiree Eure, a 6-7, 242-pounder who also had offers from Purdue, Syracuse and Colorado.
This comes on the heels of wide receiver James Green, who came on board yesterday.
The Gophers class is now at 24.
