Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Wednesday (Lusty front-runners on the Internet) edition: Wha' Happened?

Yahoo! emailed out findings from its top-searched athletes and teams from 2009, and we tell you the results are shocking. SHOCKING! Well, actually they aren't really shocking. They are predictable and kind of sad. Ladies and gentlemen (but mostly gentlemen, if the lists are accurate), here are your top 10 athletes searched on Yahoo! this year (our comments, obviously):

1. Manny Pacquiao (current world's greatest boxer)

2. Maria Sharapova (former tennis champ who was hurt for much of the year. Also known to be fairly attractive).

3. Danica Patrick (race car driver. Also known to be fairly attractive).

4. Gina Carano (MMA fighter. Appeared in Maxim, aka Playboy Lite).

5. Anna Kournikova (Tennis player? Retired tennis player. Pictured).

6. Serena Williams (Dominant tennis player with a bad temper).

7. Natalie Gulbis (Golfer. Appeared in FHM, aka Maxim Lite)

8. Amanda Beard (Swimmer. Appeared in Playboy. It was all nude, but tastefully done).

9. Michael Phelps (Swimmer. Won some medals. Smoked a little stuff).

10. LeBron James (Basketball star. Amusing pitchman).

So there you have it: Seven of the top eight searches are for female athletes. And while we hate to generalize, we'd say most of the searches were for off-field prowess rather than on-field prowess.

The top six of those athletes also made the list of searches when combined with teams for a top 10 team/athlete search. The teams that made the top 10: Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Conclusion: the Internet is full of lusty front-runners.

Shocking!
