YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Maureen Hackett hopes Congress needs a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist and U.S. Air Force veteran announced today she will challenge U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen in Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District.
The DFLer pledged to "revive the American" dream.
“Growing up in a lower-middle class home and working hard to put myself through college and medical school, I benefited from the opportunities afforded to me by this great country, and I have been able to live the American dream," Hackett said in a statement.
"But it seems these days that the American dream is fading," she said. "And without responsible, accountable, and informed leadership in Washington, this dream is in serious jeopardy for future generations. I am running for Congress to restore these qualities to leadership, to raise up the middle class, and to make sure our children and grandchildren have even better opportunities than we had."
Hackett was an officer in the Air Force and has worked treating patients at Hennepin County Medical Center and Minnesota's state hospitals. She has taught at University of Minnesota, William Mitchell College of Law and Mayo Clinic.
Hackett was born in Cleveland, graduated from Lake Forest College and then Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She served seven years as an Air Force psychiatrist.
Hackett could not immediately be reached for comment.
