The Toro electric power shovel is perfect for small jobs

One of the best times to buy seasonal items is pre-or post season. Through Saturday, Nov. 14, Target has the Toro electric snow thrower on sale for $80, regularly $110. At only 13 pounds, the shovel is good for clearing decks, patios and walkways. Toro says it tackles snows up to six inches deep. Because it's electric powered and compact, it can be stored inside too.

It's not for clearing driveways or 12-inch snowfalls,  but it handles easily enough for someone with limited mobility. Certainly easier than a shovel. Consumer Reports rates it "fair." Four out of five reviewers at Target.com rated it 4 or 5 stars. One reviewer hated it.

When I went to a Target earlier this week, the Lake Street store only had one on the shelf. I suspect that some stores are either sold out or the item needs to be brought from the back room. Ask for a raincheck if you're out of luck. Target.com is out of stock, but go here if you want to see the item in action.

It's also sold at at select Toro dealers, Home Depot ($99 plus shipping at the website) and Amazon.com ($87.37 plus shipping).
