Can Aerosmith fly sans Tyler?

Funny, I've always been a fan of Aerosmith's 1982 record "Rock in a Hard Place," the one that Steven Tyler made without Joe Perry. I'm not sure if the band could work the other way around, though, as is now apparently being pondered by Perry following comments the singer made about not wanting to tour with the band. The latest word comes from that most almighty of rumor-mill-spinning sites, Twitter, where the guitarist posted a Tweet saying the group is "positivly (sic) looking for a new singer."

Jokes are already flying about auditioning Gary Cherone, Sammy Hagar, Paul Rogers, Scott Weiland or that guy from AlterBridge who Jimmy Page & Co. were also talking to (Weiland actually is not so funny, cuz he could actually work).

The most sensible contender to me would be Tyler's son-in-law, Royston Langdon of Spacehog 15-minute-fame, which would at least allow them to still recruit Liv Tyler for their music videos. Another good idea might be to recruit a female singer, which would lessen the filling-Steven's-shoes comparisons, plus it would also be a hilarious contradiction hearing "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "10 Inch Record" sung by a woman.

Seriously, though, do you think Aerosmith could ever get its wings with a new frontman?
