The Internal Revenue Service just put out its annual list of taxpayers who had undeliverable tax refunds.

I don't understand how you can just forget about never receiving a tax refund, but not everyone is such a stickler for money-related details.

I'm not going to pelt you with facts. You just want to know if you're on THE LIST, right?

Are you on THE LIST? Well, check THE LIST out!

Did you see your name? Well, you'd better update your address using the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on IRS.gov . To use the tool, you'll need:

  1. Social Security number
  2. tax filing status
  3. amount of your refund shown on your 2008 return.

For those of you who care about the stats:

  • Nearly 1,300 Minnesota taxpayers are due to receive a combined $1.3 million in federal refund checks.
  • Undeliverable refund checks for Minnesotans are higher this year, averaging $1,009 compared with $778 in 2008. The higher average amount can be explained by new tax credits such as the first-time home buyer credit that are benefiting some taxpayers.
  • Nationally, 107,831 taxpayers have a combined $124 million in returned refund checks owed to them.

Do me a favor. Avoid this fate in the future by using e-file or direct deposit. You'll get your money back faster and hassle-free as well. And save paper. And stamps.
