The Golden Eagle that's been radio-tracked since spring migration returned to Minnesota from Canada on Friday. While many south-bound migrants, including eagles, follow the Lake Superior shoreline south through Duluth, Whitey, as this eagle is known, instead made the border crossing into Koochiching County, some distance west of Lake Superior. The bird might yet show up in Duluth, or it might not. It's hoped to be heading for the wintering territory it used last winter in southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin. Information on the bird's movement is being provided by Mark Martell, director of bird conservation for Audubon Minnesota, one of the agencies participating in the tracking project.
