This was a shock: Opening my email this morning and discovering a message from Tejas co-owners Wayne Kostroski and Mark Haugen, announcing that they are closing Tejas.
"Unfortunately, due to an unreasonable increase in rent demanded by the landlord for our lease renewal after 15 years, we are unable to accept the terms and justify the renewal of the lease," they wrote. "We are actively seeking a potential new location for Tejas; however, it is highly unlikely that any new location would be identified until mid 2010. Thank you for your enthusiastic support for these first 22 years. We look forward to serving you at Tejas between now and the end of the year."
Tejas opened in the Conservatory in downtown Minneapolis under the stewardship of Texas superchef Stephan Pyles; it later moved to its present 50th-and-France location, where it will continue to serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday through Dec. 30th.
