The Democrats trying to win their party's endorsement to run against Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann in 2010 have been shaking the money trees for cash to fund their efforts.
State Sen. Tarryl Clark, who officially entered the race in late July, said she'd raised $308,000 and Maureen Reed, a doctor and former Independence Party lieutenant governor candidate, raised 'over $130,000.'
From Tarryl Clark:
State Senator Tarryl Clark set a break-neck pace in the race for Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District, raising $308,015 in just nine weeks. Clark, who entered the race mid-quarter on July 28th, becomes one of only a few challengers nationwide to raise more than $300,000 in a single quarter.
Clark’s 2,412 donors contributed an average of $107. The campaign finished the quarter with just under $270,000 in the bank.
From Maureen Reed:
Congressional Candidate Maureen Reed unveiled another successful fundraising quarter today. Reed announced that she raised over $130,000 in the 3rd Quarter for a total of $360,000 raised to date and has over $300,000 on hand. Reed’s continued success displays the ability to remain competitive in this race.
The six digit figures are impressive for candidates this far from Election Day but don't bring either of the challengers up to Bachmann's war chest.
In July 2009, she reported raising almost $650,000 for her 2010 bid and had $389,403 cash-on-hand.
