By John Millea

I have been consistently inconsistent in my picks so far this season, with weekly records of 16-4, 11-9 and 14-6. My batting average is .684, which I – and anybody named Mauer – will take.

There are not a ton of huge, consequential games this week in the metro. Fourth-ranked Champlin Park and Blaine might settle a few things in a Thursday contest in the Northwest Suburban Conference, we’ll know more about the Lake when Eden Prairie plays host to Lakeville South, and Totino-Grace entertains Becker in a nice non-conference Class 4A matchup.

Outstate is where it’s at this week, with plenty of attractive games. There are six of those games among this week’s predictions, and the winners I have selected (and probably have jinxed) include Rushford-Peterson, New London-Spicer, Rochester Century and Verndale.

The most shocking fact about this week is that we have already reached the halfway point of the regular season. And summer just arrived … or at least it feels that way.
