He welcomes your suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and random pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

The Very Timely Huntdown

Name: Jerry Koosman

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: pitched for the Twins from 1979, when he won 20 games, through the middle of 1981, when he was traded to the White Sox for Randy Johnson (no, not that one, this one). Is a native of Appleton, Minnesota. A mere half-hour drive from Ortonville, Appleton is considered by some to be the Paris of Swift County.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: made his mark with the New York Mets and was a key part of the Miracle Mets of 1969. Question: how much of a miracle is it to win a World Series with Koosman, Tom Seaver and a young Nolan Ryan on your pitching staff? Answer: not as much as winning one with Les Straker. Koosman finished his career with 222 wins and a 3.36 ERA.

Where He Is Now: as of November 3rd of this year, jail. Just so no one else makes the same mistake: if you think that federal tax laws only apply to federal employees, corporate workers and people who live in the District of Columbia, you are wrong, and will also go to jail. You’re welcome.

Glorious Randomness: 1) On Growing Pains, Kirk Cameron and company had the last name of “Seaver,” and their neighbors were the Koosmans. 2) The Mets acquired Jesse Orosco from the Twins for Koosman. Orosco and Koosman are the two pitchers who have recorded the final out in the franchise’s two World Series titles.
