Interest in local and sustainable foods has taken a new twist, and linked Seward Co-op in south Minneapolis with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR is offering a workshop on wild turkey hunting opportunities at the co-op's classroom from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26.

"More people want locally sourced, sustainable food, and interest is growing in using hunting as a way to obtain it," said Jay Johnson, hunter recruitment and retention supervisor for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The class will present information about turkey hunting and how to take wild turkey from field to feast, Johnson said. It will also introduce people to the agency's Learn to Hunt Wild Turkey program. The adult program is a multi-session course with a curriculum designed to take a person with no knowledge about turkey hunting to a point where they can begin to hunt.
