A scintillating invitation arrived in my email box last night from the Mayo Clinic.

It said Mayo Clinic, Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, and Provident Real Estate Ventures (the owner of Block E) will announce a "collaboration" at Block E today at 2 p.m.

Last November, we reported here that the Wolves and Lynx would move into the nearly vacant Block E complex, with plans to open a practice facility. (Above is a rendering of how the new Block E will look once completed.)

It was long rumored that the Mayo Clinic would follow with some sort of sports medicine operation, but no one would confirm that on the record.

The participants at the press conference are as follows:

Dr. Edward Laskowski and Dr. Michael Stuart, co-directors, Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center
Dr. John Wald, medical director for marketing and public affairs, Mayo Clinic
Rob Moor, CEO, Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx
Roger Griffith, GM, Lynx

Flip Saunders, president of basketball operations, Minnesota Timberwolves
Phillip Jaffe, co-owner, 600 Hennepin, and principal and CEO, Provident Real Estate Ventures
Carl Runck, development manager, Camelot LLC

We'll keep updating you throughout the day.
