As time ran out in Friday's night game between Houston and Boston, Kevin Garnett reached out to his former boss with the Timberwolves, Kevin McHale.

It was McHale who drafted Garnett out of high school in 1995 when he was general manager of the Wolves and he was Garnett's boss, mostly as general manager and briefly as coach. It was McHale who engineered the trade that sent Garnett from the Wolves to Boston 5 1/2 years ago.

McHale was named coach of the Rockets during the offseason, but left the team last month when he daughter Sasha took ill. Sasha died of complications from Lupus on Nov. 24 at age 23. He returned to the team last weekend and the game against Boston was McHale's fourth game back on the bench.

Here is the story from Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, where McHale said he would always have a special place in his heart for Garnett.
