Jack Taylor, in case you haven't been living on social media or SportsCenter for the past 12 hours, scored an NCAA-record 138 points in a Division III game last night for Grinnell (Iowa).

There are plenty of things around which to wrap your head, aside from the sheer volume of points scored:

*Taylor took 108 shots in 36 minutes of court time -- one shot every 20 seconds.

*An opposing player for Faith Baptist Bible scored 70 points and was nearly doubled-up.

*Taylor shot 38 percent from three-point range.

*Taylor, a native of Black River Falls, Wis. -- about 150 miles southeast of Minneapolis -- went to UW-La Crosse last year. He was their fourth-leading scorer, averaging 7 ppg.

*Taylor had 138 POINTS AND ZERO ASSISTS.

*Grinnell has a history of playing this way.

More than anything, though -- after the numbers are crunched and the thinking starts -- we are left with these thoughts:

While we won't say the record is a mockery of the game, we do think it is all very circumstantial and a little sad. Watching a highlight clip of the game (below) does not invoke the similar wild cheers we hear from the stands. It makes us think more of a bad pickup basketball game where one guy keeps calling for the ball and taking all the shots. And after thinking about it for a few extra minutes, the best response we can muster is, "meh." (But don't take our word for it. Aside from the clip posted, you can click here on the Grinnell web site and watch the entire game under the archive tab).
