If there's still any lingering doubt about Motion City Soundtrack lacking a large base of diehard hometown fans, it was dispelled Sunday night at the Varsity Theater. I only counted four songs where the sold-out crowd did not rabidly sing along -- verses and choruses, mind you, not just the main hooks. And one of those tunes was the lone cover of the night. The rest understandably came from the new album, "Go."

This was only the band's second hometown show since "Go's" release, and the first was in front of more of a general crowd at River's Edge Fest in June. What a difference the change in venue made. The guys probably could've played First Ave instead (more than twice as big as the Varsity), but even that might've diluted Sunday's fanatical scene.

One funny, only-in-Minnesota moment came early in the set when frontman Justin Pierre introduced the song "Antonia" as a request -- one sent from his girlfriend's boss. "So I think a 4-5% raise might be in order after this," he quipped.
