The mystery is over.

Rick Adelman said before tonight's season opener that Derrick Williams will start for injured Kevin Love at power forward against Sacramento and he'll bring Dante Cunningham off the bench behind Williams.

"Well, we just think it's the best way to go to start with," Adelman said. "We like Dante coming off the bench, his energy level, and so we decided to go that way.

"It's more about what's best for the team. What's the best starting group, getting him started. And like I said, Dante gives us a lot of energy off the bench and we'll see how it goes. It's just something we thought was best for the team, best for the rotation. "

Adelman says he hopes a team lacking Love's 26 points a game gives the Wolves scoring to start the game.

"He's certainly capable of that," Adelman said.

Adelman said he hopes this combination works until Love comes back from that broken hand, although he said he's ready to adjust if it doesn't.

Assistant coach Terry Porter told Williams at this morning's shootaround that he'll start.

"It's not really too big of an issue," Williams said. "I just want to get out there and play. I think everybody does. It's the first game, we'll see what we have. It has been a long offseason."

Asked if Porter gave him any instruction when he delivered the starting message, Williams said, "Nothing like that. My game speaks for itself. Nobody has to tell me how to play or anything like that. I think they all trust me."
