Here's some good end-of-the-week news for arts organizations: Grantmaking to the arts in Minnesota was $129 million in 2010, 20 percent more than in mid-recession 2009, reports the Minnesota Council on Foundations. Half that sum came from corporate sources, with Target in the lead at $34 million. The biggest percentage jump in giving -- 85% -- came from community and public foundations, which gave $22 million. Private foundations kicked in $44 million. Prior to 2010, giving to the arts had more or less declined steadily since 2004. Analysis was based on more than 27,000 grants of $2000 or more, made by a sample of the 100 largest grantmakers in the state. MCF's complete Giving in Minnesota, 2012 Edition, will be released in October. Thanks to Sheila Smith from Minnesota Citizens for the Arts for relaying the news.
