UPDATES

Sorry this is late. It's been a crazy day here with press conferences everywhere. Joe C. is all over the All-Star Game announcement.

Denard Span has a bruised SC joint (connection between the breastbone and collarbone) in his shoulder and is day-to-day. The problem is that it takes four to six weeks to fully heal. Span is going to try to play whenever he can, but this looks like something he's going to have to battle over the final few weeks of the season.

Span said he wants to play as much as he can and make it through the season. It appears that he's going to need a few days before he returns to action.

And, yes, with the help of Valium, Span was able to get through the MRI exam at 6:45 this morning.

Scott Diamond said he decided to drop his appeal after talking things over with the player's association.

Mauer spoke to the media and said this isn't the first time or the last time he will be placed on waivers. Most Twins players know that they are placed on waivers during the month of August. "I signed here because this is where I want to be," he said.

Mauer has a full no-trade clause in his contract, so he holds the hammer even if the Twins wanted to deal him. But they don't want to trade him. This is a procedure that takes place every year at this time.
