Construction starts were down last month, but permit requests were up - a sign that construction activity will rise in the coming months, according to new data released this morning by the Commerce Department. The National Association of Home Builders is also saying that builder sentiment is improving. And as Just Listed has already reported, Twin Cities home builders had their best July in years.

There's another way to gauge just how well local home builders are faring. The number of entries in the Parade of Homes Fall Showcase appears to be on the rebound after hitting an all-time low last year. The twice-yearly event, sponsored by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, is the biggest marketing event for builders. Wendy Danks, BATC's marketing director, recently told Just Listed that the Fall parade numbers are much higher than expected, a sure sign that local builders really are indeed feeling more confident. This Parade starts Sept. 8-30, you'll find details here.
