Ahead of President Obama's trip to a Honeywell facility in Golden Valley on Friday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) is using Honeywell CEO David Cote's own words to criticize the president on the economy. Cote was a member of Obama's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, and has expressed some strong views about the national debt, calling it "the seeds of the next recession." The RNC brief on Cote includes his remark to Fox Business News in 2011 that the national debt is causing some foreign countries to "lose some respect with the way we're handling this." He's also said that the best medicine for the economy would be "resolving our long-term debt problem." Nothing in the RNC brief speaks to where Cote falls in the debate over spending cuts versus tax increases. But the brief, obtained exclusively by the Star Tribune, makes clear that the RNC and the Romney campaign are making a national push to highlight their argument that Obama has been bad for small businesses and job creators, and they want to use Cotes' comments in that effort while Obama's in Minnesota. Meanwhile, the Obama campaign sent around a "memo" Wednesday critical of "Romney economics," saying his experience as a corporate buyout specialist at Bain "didn't work then and it won't work now." Obama will be in Golden Valley to urge Congress to act on his "To Do List", specifically highlighting the need to help returning veterans by passing legislation that creates a Veterans Jobs Corps to help Afghanistan and Iraq veterans get jobs as cops and firefighters, as well as other jobs serving their communities.
