By now, we try not to jump when we hear that Gophers coach Tubby Smith's name connected to an open college basketball position. Most recently, his name was mentioned in connection with the South Carolina job that went to Frank Martin and the Tulsa job that went to Danny Manning.

Now, reports from CBSsports.com and a Louisiana State University sports website say that Smith has talked to LSU officials about that vacant job.

The report from the CBS College Basketball Insider blog says that Lousiana State has talked to Smith as well as former LSU player and assistant Johnny Jones, currently coaching at North Texas State.

Randy Rosetta, the managing editor of the LSU-centric Tigers Sports Blog, wrote this story connecting Smith to LSU.

And at around 1:30 p.m., Rosetta tweeted: "Sources close to #LSU and Tubby Smith tell me there is a "legitimate conversation" about the job and that something could happen quickly."
