"Women in Music" powwow tonight at Amsterdam Bar

Another of the many cool things that sets the Twin Cities music scene apart: There really isn't much separation or discrimination among the genders here (just ask any woman who ever used the 7th Street Entry bathroom pre-renovations). Or so I personally believe. You can find out what some of the more prominent women in the local scene think on this issue and a lot more tonight at the Amsterdam Bar & Hall in downtown St. Paul, which is hosting the business panel "Celebrate Women in Music 2011" starting about 6 p.m. Participants include musicians Christy Hunt and Arzu Gokcen (Pink Mink), Desdamona, Alison Scott and Holly Newsom (Zoo Animal), plus club bookers Kim King and Sonia Grover (First Ave), biz vet Maggie Macpherson (ex-Jayhawks manager) and critic Andrea Swensson (City Pages). After the discussion, Scott, Newsom and Desdamona will all perform short sets. Tickets ($5) can be bought online, or it'll be $8 at the door.
