A Swedish delegation will arrive in the Twin Cities this weekend to learn more about the Minneapolis Public Schools and celebrate the Minneapolis-Uppsala sister city relationship.

Ten educators and four government staffers will tour district schools, including Washburn High, Lake Harriet Upper and Dowling Urban Enviromental Center, and take in the sights during their visit, which runs from Saturday through Sunday, Oct. 30.

Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson and the American Swedish Institute will host a reception for their guests at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at district headquarters, 807 Broadway Av. NE, with school board members and other district dignataries in attendance.

Since the program began in 2005, more than 60 Minneapolis schools employees have traveled to Sweden for the cultural exchange, but none on the district time. Employees pay for their own trips with help from fundraisers coordinated by the Swedish Institute.

"This program provides an opportunity for educators to see and experience the education system through a different lens," Johnson wrote in a release.

Minneapolis and Uppsala became sister cities in 2000.
