University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks will testify at the state Capitol today -- a day after Republicans proposed $185 million in cuts for public universities as part of a $1 billion trim.

He plans to give an overview of the university, according to the Senate's agenda. Here are the details:

What: Minnesota Senate Committee on Higher Education

When: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19

Where: Room 107, State Capitol, 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul.

This will be Bruininks' last legislative session. He is stepping down in June and will be succeeded by Eric Kaler.
