

As we move into a new year, it's customary for many to make resolutions. Bad habits we'll break, good behaviors we'll adopt. It's all well-intended but seldom leads to lasting positive change. Instead, at its worst, it can reinforce a belief that change is too difficult and even yield a sense of failure. Not quite the way to start the year!

In a busy time of year like the holidays, it can be easy to get stressed out by the demands on your time. Family traditions, parties, school events and travel are added to the usual routine. At the same time, work can pick up in a year-end rush. The pressure can take an unnecessary toll on the joy of the season.

Q I don't believe in multi-tasking, but I have to switch gears so often that it feels like that's what I'm doing. Because of the nature of my work, that's not going to change. I'm finding that it's getting harder and harder to focus; what strategies can I use to lock in my mind when I need to?
