Three years ago Lance Wittleder received a kidney from his father, Eric. During that year of crisis, the Wittleders, including mom, Stephanie, and older sister, Hana, shared their story with the Star Tribune. Today Lance is 4. He’s doing just fine and so is his dad.

Otto Machado is waiting for his second kidney transplant and must undergo dialysis treatments several times a week at home. He suffers from a genetic disorder that caused his kidneys to fail, a condition that affects three of his brothers who have also received transplants. In 2007, Machado’s youngest child, daughter Dani, was diagnosed with renal failure.

In May, ten same-sex couples from Minnesota, including Roger Schiltz and his partner, Keith Monjak, traveled to Davenport, Iowa to exchange vows, just days after the state's supreme court ruled it legal. Same-sex marriage is not recognized in Minnesota. Roger has terminal prostate cancer and is being cared for by Keith at the couple's New Brighton home.
