Jane Friedmann joined the Whistleblower team in 2009. As artist and researcher for the newsroom’s graphics team, she has detailed the devastating physical effects of methamphetamine, covered the resumption of the space flight after the loss of the shuttle Columbia, reported on critical world habitats and conducted extensive research on the Interstate 35W bridge collapse. Her work has garnered many awards from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists, The Minnesota Associated Press Association and the Society of News Design. Friedmann spearheaded the identification of the occupants of 78 of 84 non-construction vehicles on the 35W bridge; she and her project teammates won a regional Emmy, a National Headliners award, a national EPpy, two Minnesota Associated Press Association awards and a Society of News Design award. Friedmann joined the Star Tribune in 1981. She holds two bachelors degrees from the University of Minnesota in journalism and in mathematics.
