The Neenah, Wisconsin-based company said it had profit of 51 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs, were 68 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 62 cents per share.
The packaging company posted revenue of $1.03 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.02 billion.
Bemis expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.75 to $2.85 per share.
Bemis shares have declined 10 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 6.5 percent. The stock has fallen slightly more than 7 percent in the last 12 months.
