Tampa Bay pitcher Grant Balfour rejoined the Rays on Sunday after the death of his father in Australia.

The Rays welcomed Balfour back by donning light blue socks in acknowledgment of David Balfour's tenure as GM and owner of the Sydney Blue Sox.

"I thought that was awesome," Balfour said.


• New York Mets reliever Josh Edgin will have season-ending elbow-ligament replacement surgery this week. Edgin was 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA in 47 appearances last season.

• Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois is going to be out four to six weeks because of a fracture in his left shoulder.

• Reigning AL MVP Mike Trout of the Angels was 2-for-2 Sunday to lift his spring batting average to .556 (10-for-18).
