Liver donor's decision came from the heart

Liver donor's decision came from the heart

Today Peggy Pond will donate 60 percent of her liver to friend and colleague, Peter Dimock. When Dimock discovered he had liver cancer he was told his best chance at survuval was to receive a transplant. Nationwide there are 17,000 people on a waiting list. The sickest are first on the list for donations. Many donors are family members. But Dimock didn’t have to look any further for his new liver than Peters Hall at the University of Minnesota, where he is a teaching specialist in the School of Social Work. Pond, his coworker, made the decision in April to donate to him. Because livers can regenerate, if all goes well in about three months both will have nearly full-sized, healthy livers. Listen to them talk about this experience.
