Archbishop John Nienstedt harshly condemned gay marriage, abortion and contraception, describing them as works of the devil in a recent speech to a conservative group in California.
The Twin Cities archbishop made the remarks at a meeting last month at the Napa Institute Conference, highlighted in a report by The Huffington Post:
“Sodomy, abortion, contraception, pornography, the redefinition of marriage, and the denial of objective truth are just some of the forces threatening the stability of our civilization,” Nienstedt said in the speech. “The source of these machinations is none other than the Father of Lies. Satan knows all too well the value that the family contributes to the fabric of a good solid society, as well as the future of God’s work on earth.”
Nienstedt was a key leader in the Catholic Church’s campaign to ban gay marriage in Minnesota. Church leaders contributed nearly $650,000 to the campaign for a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, which failed Nov. 6. Legislators went on to legalize same-sex marriage.
