It is an ad campaign of “biblical proportions.”

To create excitement for the popular summer Basilica Block Party, Martin Williams Advertising reimagined biblical themes of fire, lightning and serpents with the help of laser-cut paper in a campaign that includes 15-second television commercials, a new website, print, digital, and concert swag such as posters, t-shirts, and temporary tattoos. Martin Williams also designed a coloring contest (ends Wednesday) which is being conducted on Instagram.

Each individual laser-cut shape was arranged and layered around the block party logo to create the pieces. The stop-motion videos were created by replicating by hand the layering process hundreds of times which Martin Williams Creative Director Anna Stassen said “wouldn’t have been the same if it was done digitally.”

The majority of the process was completed in-house at Martin Williams. Black Label Music created the guitar riffs in the videos and Volt Studios helped with the finishing aspects of the film production.

For the last four years, Martin Williams has helped create campaigns for the Basilica Block Party, which is hosted as a fundraiser for the restoration of the Basilica of Saint Mary located on the outskirts of downtown Minneapolis. The event takes place on the evenings of July 8 and 9.
