THE Traveler: Dan Johnson of Eden Prairie.

The scene: The sun puts on a great show near Grand Rapids, Minn.

The trip: "My wife and I have enjoyed biking- and canoeing-camping trips. We camped in our tent on the banks of the Mississippi at Pokegama Dam Campground just west of Grand Rapids, Minn. One day we rented a kayak from Paddle Hoppers and floated 16 miles down the river south of the city, and the next day we rode our bikes up the Mesabi Bike Trail and back. This photo happened on an evening walk at the end of one of those great days," he wrote in an e-mail. " I did not realize I would get such a beautiful sunset on the Mississippi in northern Minnesota," he added.

How he got this shot: "After dinner we walked across the dam and hiked in a large wooded area bounded on the north and east by the Mississippi. On our way back we came upon a bench with this great sunset view, looking upstream at the peaceful waters above the dam. I pulled out my iPhone 6s and took a quick shot. The sun was a little bright in that one, so I stepped a little to the side to get the sun behind the tree and took another," he wrote.
