In the opening act of the Crosstown reconstruction project, crews will close Interstate Hwy. 35W for the weekend through south Minneapolis to tear down the Diamond Lake Road bridge and make way for a wider freeway. From 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, traffic will be detoured to Hwy. 100 through the western suburbs, a 13-mile reroute. Builders will close I-35W and use the same detour nine times during the four-year, $288 million project.
