Last update: September 21, 2009 - 6:14 AM

EDINA, Minn. - Joseph Califano Jr., a former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, speaks in Edina on Monday night on how parents can raise drug-free kids.

Califano is founder and chairman of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.

He'll speak from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Edina Performing Arts Center at Edina High School. His presentation will be based on his new book, "How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid: The Straight Dope for Parents."

Califano, who served in President Jimmy Carter's cabinet, will be introduced by former U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad of Minnesota, a longtime promoter of recovery from chemical dependency.
