Letter of the day: Come up with coupons, or delay transition to digital TV

DAN SULLIVAN, MINNEAPOLIS

Letters to the editor for Friday, Jan. 9

As Minneapolis taxpayers' perennial payouts for police mistreatment of citizens amply substantiate, the city's Police Department has for decades been allowed a free hand, or should I say fist, to routinely beat and terrorize people.

Letter of the day: Minneapolis is better because Pohlad chose to invest in it

SAM GRABARSKI, MINNEAPOLIS; PRESIDENT/CEO, MINNEAPOLIS DOWNTOWN COUNCIL

Letters to the editor for Thursday, Jan. 8

A Jan. 7 letter writer suggests that other readers should have "evidence" before offering an opinion on Minnesota's U.S. Senate race results. Of course, there is no possible way the average voter could contribute any evidence to the process.

Netlets for Wednesday, Jan. 7

It appears that the Vikings of old and the Vikings of today have the same inherent issue: Are they explorers trying to enlighten civilization (a new stadium for a public asset?) or are they merely plunderers (drinking turpentine and washing it down with gasoline chasers as a columnist paraphrases the fan behavior so strongly "allowed" by Viking management and all of this in an environment that if it were placed in south Minneapolis under the MAC noise constraints would require "remodelling" for human habitation).

Letter of the day: Family struck by cancer is overwhelmed by compassion

DAR, HELEN AND JESSE DURANT, PRINCETON, MINN.

Letters to the editor, Jan. 7, 2009

A Jan. 6 letter writer states that it was a "Democratic sleight of hand amounting to corruption beyond measure" that allowed Al Franken to seemingly win the election.

About Opinion Exchange

Opinion Exchange is produced by the Editorial Department, which is dedicated to hosting the discussion on a range of issues of interest to Star Tribune readers online and in print. In its new format, it's our hope that Opinion Exhange will create a more dynamic dialogue between Star Tribune readers and the Editorial Board. Many individual posts will be written and signed by members of the Editorial Board and will reflect their own opinions. Daily editorials will continue to represent the institutional voice of the newspaper and be researched and written by the Editorial Department, which is independent of the newsroom.
