Pockets of Minnesota get over 14 inches of snow

MINNEAPOLIS - Isolated parts of central and east-central Minnesota received over 14 inches of snow by Tuesday evening, and the drive home from work moved at a crawl in the Twin Cities.

The heaviest snow fell along and north of the Interstate 94 corridor from Moorhead to north of the Twin Cities before the storm let up Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service said the highest recorded total was 15.7 inches near Hillman in Morrison County. Rush City received 14.5 inches, while Little Falls reported 14 inches. Much of the Twin Cities area received 1 to 2 inches or more.

Dozens of mostly minor traffic accidents and spinouts were reported, but there were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

Tuesday marked the 16th day in December in which measurable snow had fallen at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and the Twin Cities were on pace to record their eighth-snowiest December on record.

Flights at the airport were delayed by as many as 2 1/2 hours Tuesday afternoon, though the situation had improved by Tuesday evening.
