Minneapolis pub retains world whiskey-selling record

Last update: September 10, 2008 - 11:04 AM

Again, the No. 1 seller of the world's best-selling Irish whiskey is a dining and drinking spot in downtown Minneapolis.

The Local, an Irish pub on Nicollet Mall, will be honored tonight as the world's leading seller of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

In 2007, the Local sold 530 cases of Jameson. That's 6,360 bottles, or an average of 17.5 bottles a day. The Local won the same honor in 2006, selling 397 cases last year.

Jameson sells so well at the Local, in part, because of a specialty drink on its menu. "The Big Ginger" is a $6 mix of Jameson and ginger ale, over ice, with lemon and lime wedges.

Jameson executives from Dublin will present a plaque to the Local's operators as part of this evening's festivities.
