PARIS — The mayor of the French city of Chamonix says two climbers and an experienced guide have died in a fall in Mont Blanc.

The bodies of the three were recovered Sunday after the accident in the Aiguille de Midi area of the Mont Blanc massif, at an altitude of about 3,800 meters (12,470 feet).

Mont Blanc contains Western Europe's highest summit as well as about 200 smaller peaks and dozens die there each year. The latest deaths come less than a week after six climbers, including an experienced guide, were killed in a fall.

Eric Fournier, mayor of Chamonix, the town at the foot of Mont Blanc's summit, told LCI television that the three climbers had been missing since Saturday.
