Stabbing victim boards light rail; 2 cars evacuated

Last update: August 20, 2008 - 5:33 AM

Two train cars on the Hiawatha light-rail line were evacuated Tuesday night after a stabbing victim got onto the train.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing were not immediately clear, but witnesses said that the man had already been stabbed before he got on the train at the Lake Street station. Passengers called 911 after they noticed the man bleeding.

The train, which was crowded with many Twins fans leaving downtown, was stopped and partly evacuated at 46th Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. After about 20 minutes, passengers were allowed to get back on the train.

Witnesses said the victim appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
