Last update: August 16, 2008 - 5:49 PM

MINNEAPOLIS - Scores of volunteers are gathering in the Twin Cities today to spruce up public spaces ahead of the Republican National Convention.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul host committee is organizing the mass clean-up effort Saturday to make St. Paul and Minneapolis streets, sidewalks and parks look presentable when thousands of visitors arrive for the convention.

The host committee asked volunteers to show up either at the Metrodome parking lot in Minneapolis or the Conseco Upper Lot on Broadway Street and Kellogg Boulevard in St. Paul.

The first 100 volunteers to show up at each location will get free tickets to events or museums.

The Republican National Convention takes place September 1-4.
