Here are the first-place winners in Sunday's Aquatennial sand-castle competition and milk-carton boat races:

SAND CASTLE COMPETITION

• Sand Pail Award: "Beach Bums," by the Hanson family (Bryan, Denise, Cole, Paige and Tanner) of Champlin.

• Sand Castle Award: "Sand Blast," team led by Jonathan Baller of Stillwater.

•  Sand Sculpture Award:   "The Mummy," by the Mummy Diggers, led by Erik Jorgensen and Brian Struble of St. Paul

• Minneapolis Landmarks Award (new category in honor of Minneapolis' 150th anniversary): "Skol Vikings" (spoon and cherry), Patrick Johnson of Minneapolis.

• Giggle Award: "Got Gas?" by Sand Wizards, team from Stewartville, Minn., led by Brian Cole.

• Best of Show and People's Choice Award: Castle with gator-creature wrapped around it, Oscar McLovin', team led by Bill Wegwerth of Maplewood.

MILK-CARTON BOAT RACES

Commodore's Race:

• First place, speed: "Ugly Ducting," team led by Kim Ford of Minneapolis.

• First place, creative: "Lady Slooper," team led by Ginger Mulcrone of Chanhassen.

Skipper's Race (cow theme):

• First place, speed: "Cow Pie," team led by Joey Prestegaard of Minneapolis.

• First place, creative: "Ses Cow Centennial," team led by Darren Prom of Brooklyn Park.

Lieutenant's Race (age 12 and under):

• First place, speed: "Hula Cow," team led by Jim Thornton.

• First place, creative: "SS Dumpster Dive," team led by Mark Anderson of Excelsior.

Admiral's Race:

• First place, speed: "Moo Canoe," team led by Denny Marquardt of Minneapolis.

• First place, creative: "Day at the Beach," team led by Ryan Vossen.

K102 Challenge/Best Days of Summer Race:

• First place, speed: "Milky Way," team led by Keith Zander of Minneapolis.

• First place, creative: "Iggy the Iguana," team led by Renee Peterson, Milk Carton Boat Yard Camp at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

St. Paul Winter Carnival vs. Minneapolis Aquatennial Race

(current and three past Aquatennial commodores raced against four former King Boreases):

• The winner: Aquatennial.
