Two human fingers, flesh still intact, were found on a campground picnic table last week in East Grand Forks, Minn., authorities said Wednesday.

A child made the discovery last Thursday at the Red River State Recreation Area, and investigators were trying to determine to whom they belonged, said police detective Tony Hart.

While not certain, Hart said he believes the two digits are middle and ring fingers. There's been no determination of whether they belonged to a male or a female.

The fingers have been fingerprinted for comparison to prints on file with law enforcement agencies, Hart added.

No hospitals in the area have handled any cases in the past 60 days reporting significant hand injuries, the detective said.
