A bridge maintenance project has reduced traffic to a single lane, adding up to 15 minutes to this morning's commute.
A bridge painting and maintenance project that has reduced the Hwy. 61 bridge near Hastings to a single lane began a few hours ago, but it's already having a significant impact on traffic.
Northbound motorists attempting to cross the bridge are experiencing delays of up to 15 minutes as 50 to 60 cars wait in line to cross, a spokesman for the Regional Transportation Management Center in Roseville said.
Traffic lights cycling every 4 minutes are regulating the 32,000 vehicles that use the bridge to cross the Mississippi River daily.
A recommended detour is Hwy. 55 to Hwy. 52.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane starting until mid-July, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.
