THE LATEST: The University of St. Thomas will host a speech by abortion foe Star Parker at 7 p.m. April 21 at the O'Shaughnessy Education Center auditorium, the university announced Tuesday.

THE BACK STORY: The school's Student Life Committee had earlier decided not to invite Parker when her appearance was proposed by a student group working with a conservative speaker's bureau.

UNIVERSITY STEPS IN: Tuesday's announcement said the speech will now be funded by the university itself, "giving university officials more involvement in managing the event." The announcement noted that critics of the original decision had said it "diminished the university's position on pro-life issues."
