World Championships

Several Minnesotans will compete in the World Track and Field Championships beginning this weekend. Some facts about the meet:

When: Saturday through Sept. 2

Where: Osaka, Japan

TV: Cable network Vs. will air championships coverage from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 27-31 ; 8 to 10 p.m. Sept. 1; and 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 2. NBC's coverage will air from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday;

1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 1; and noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 2.

Minnesota competitors: Apple Valley and Gophers alumna Shani Marks will compete in the women's triple jump (preliminaries Aug. 29, finals Aug. 31). Katie McGregor, a member of the Team USA Minnesota distance running group who lives in St. Louis Park, will run in the women's 10,000 meters, as will Duluth East graduate Kara Goucher (Saturday). Jim Dilling, who won four NCAA Division II titles at Minnesota State Mankato, will compete in the men's high jump (prelims Aug. 27, finals Aug. 29).
